Growing

May 26 will go down in history as the day of much seeding. One of the most common mistakes that can be made when beginning the process of growing microgreens is that all of the different varieties of seeds are treated the same at the first stage of the process, the seeding. I had the opportunity not only to learn and witness this company's seeding process but also to participate myself. The science of seeding begins even before the seed hits the soil filled tray. The first and most important step is to weigh out the correct amount of seed for each individual tray of the varieties being planted. Adhering to the specific weights ensures that each tray will have the correct density to avoid having resource competition. Additionally, each amount of seed that goes onto the trays is chosen specifically to maximize the amount of growth that can be achieved within the limited amount of space that the company has because if there is one thing that an urban greens company will always be battling it is space.

So much information was presented to me during this day that I did not come out with any specific questions in mind for the following week. I think if there were something that I would be interested in keeping an eye out in the coming week is how quickly I get a hang on of the intricate seeding processes that are followed for each of the varieties. I know if there are any I do remember, it will probably be the peas.
