Sunflower and Seeds: The Return
IMG_4941.jpg

I wouldn't go so far to say that my opinion on sunflower greens has changed, but they have become a little less villainized. Once again, for the market, I needed to harvest a tray of sunflower greens to add into the nutrition mix that I would be bringing out to sell. As I mentioned previously, I have not always been a huge fan of this specific green due to the challenging seeds. When my coworkers brought up the idea of manipulating the seed prior to seeding by soaking it, I was interested to see what would happen as a result. Well, this week I was able to see the result of that choice. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were little to no seeds stuck on the leaves of the sunflower greens. This allowed me to almost completely skip the step of carefully pulling seeds off of the plants one by one until it was ready to be harvested. Today, all I needed to do was take off maybe five or six seeds before it was ready to be harvested. In the weeks prior, I was needing to pull off too many to count in order for the tray to be ready to cut. All in all, it was a fairly successful market day and a rather full circle moment when it came to the sunflower greens. I'm looking forward to seeing if the pattern continues.
