So Magic Also Happens on the Streets of Boston

A week or two ago, I had mentioned the fact that one of the workers of Lincoln, a restaurant I've been doing the deliveries for, had talked to me about a potential new client. I thought that experience was really cool. I didn't think that it would happen again. However, during the market, it happened again. Where we set up for the market is right next to one of the bus stops along West Broadway Street. This stop, specifically, is frequented by many of the workers from the various restaurants along the street. The time we are out with our table is also the time that the morning shift workers get out of work. While out at the market, another worker from Lincoln came out of the restaurant to wait at the bus stop. When he saw me, he came over to talk to me about another potential client for the company. He talked about a catering business in Southie that he used to work for that uses microgreens in all of its cooking. Like I did with the last client tip, I passed it along to my coworkers. I thought it was interesting that the workers find that they can bring these forms of ideas to me and that they support the company so much that they want

to actively help it expand. Another notable aspect of the day was when the Head of Cultivation brought up a rather innovative idea to me at the beginning of the day. He talked about the extra soil they have left over from the harvested trays. I knew that they had someone who took some of the extra soil, but I think it isn't a very consistent thing. Because of this, the company is left trying to figure out what to do with all of the soil waste. The Head of Cultivation had an idea that I should ask customers at the market if they had their own gardens or plants and used compost for them. If they said yes, I could ask if they would be interested in buying our extra composted soil at a much lower cost than your typical bag of compost. I thought this was a great idea because it benefits both the company and the local gardeners. The company is able to get rid of waste sustainably and bring in some extra money for the business. The customers get freshly composted soil for a fraction of the price. I also think this could help the company expand into the residential market because if they are buying the soil they might decide to try the microgreens out of curiosity. I totally forgot to ask customers today, however, so I will be doing so at the next market. All in all, there were a lot of shared ideas today.
